First and foremost, of course, the Schlachtensee must be mentioned here. It is the southernmost of the large Grunewald chain of lakes.
There is a hiking trail on its shores that leads 5.5 kilometres around the lake and invites you to go hiking, walking or jogging. In the warmer months, it is a popular place for Berliners and Berlin tourists to cool off in the summer temperatures. Several sunbathing lawns near the S-Bahn and on the north-east bank invite you to linger, relax and picnic.
Amateur captains can hire a rowing boat from the boat hire centre on the east bank. Anglers will get their money's worth here, as will visitors to the historic inn with beer garden who prefer to let the cool water run down their throats.
